Sir Charles Farran succeeded Sir Sargent as Chief Justice . He was the then Puisne Judge, superseding Bayley. He was the first Editor of the Indian Law Reports, Bombay Series, which commenced in 1875. He had also acted as Advocate-General and Judge, before he became Chief Justice. Justice Farran died suddenly in Bombay in 1898.
