Honourable Mr. Chittatosh Mookerjee was appointed as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court on 2nd November 1987. His Lordship was born on 1st January 1929 in the renowned Mookerjee family of Judges. His Lordship passed his Matriculation Examination in the First Division from Mitra Institution, Bhowanipore, Calcutta. He completed his graduation and obtained First Class Honours in Economics. In 1951 he passed M.A. Examination. In the studies of Law, His Lordship obtained the First Class in the Preliminary, Intermediate and Final Law Examinations of the Calcutta University and stood first in the Intermediate and Final Examinations. His Lordship enrolled as an advocate in the Calcutta High Court on November 24,1953 and practised mainly on the Appellate Side of the Calcutta High Court. His Lordship served as a Law Lecturer in the University College of Law from 1955 to 1968. He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Calcutta High Court on April 2, 1969 and became permanent Judge from November 25, 1970. His Lordship's Judgments are remarkably brief and yet very lucid. On November 1, 1986, His Lordship was elevated as the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court and was transferred as Chief Justice of Bombay on 2nd November, 1987 and retired on 1st January, 1991. |
