  CHIEF JUSTICE MR. YESHWANT SHRIPAD TAMBE  CHIEF JUSTICE MR. YESHWANT SHRIPAD TAMBE

Honourable Shri. Yeshwant Shripad Tambe, succeeded Mr. Justice Chainani as the Chief Justice in February 1966. His Lordship was the first 'Nagpur Judge to become the Chief Justice of Bombay. Before becoming the permanent Chief Justice in 1966 , His Lordship was the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court in 1960, 1962, 1963 and 1965.

His Lordship's was born at Amravati in Vidarbha on 31st July 1904 and had his early education at Indore. In 1929 joined the Government Law College in Bombay and took the law degree. His Lordship joined the legal profession as member of the District Bar at Nagpur on 2nd January 1930, soon made his mark at the Bar and become Judge of Nagpur High Court on 8th February 1954. On 5th February 1966 the President of India was pleased to appoint Honourable Shri. Justice Y.S.Tambe as Chief Justice of Bombay High Court. His Lordship humility, earnest endeavour to dispense Justice with efficiency and without fear or favour, deep understanding of human nature and capacity to form quick judgment all combined made him a great judge. His Lordship retired as Chief Justice on 31st July, 1966.
