Honourable Mr Justice Dinshah Pirosha Madon succeeded Justice V.S. Deshpande as the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court in August 1982. His Lordship was born in Bombay on 7th April 1921. His Lordship passed B.A.(Hons.) in England Literature and LL.B. in First Class. His Lordship enrolled as an Advocate on Appellate Side of the Bombay High Court on 21st November 1944, and on 2nd November 1945 on the Original Side. His Lordship worked as a part-time professor of law, Government Law College, Bombay, from 1952 to 1955. His Lordship had written a book "Principles and Practice of the Sales-Tax." His Lordship mostly practised on Original Side of the Bombay High Court, and also appeared on the Appellate Side of the Bombay High Court and other Courts in India, including Supreme Court and in foreign Courts, namely, the Court of Appeals for East Africa and the Crown Colonies at Nairobi and Supreme Court of Aden. His Lordship was elevated to the Bench of the Bombay High Court on 25.9.1967 and was appointed Permanent Judge on 6.8.1969. His Lordship was appointed Acting Chief Justice of Bombay High Court from 1st August.1982 and was made Permanent Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court from 31st August,1982. His Lordship was elevated as Judge of the Supreme Court of India on 15th March, 1983 and retired on 7th April, 1986. |
