Honourable Shri. Manoj Kumar Mukherjee succeeded Justice P.D. Desai as the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court in January 1993.

His Lordship was born on 1st December 1933. His Lordship passed B.Sc., L.L.B and joined the Asansol Bar in November, 1956 and practised in the Sub-Divisional and District Court and Labour Tribunal till 1971. His Lordship enrolled as an Advocate, High Court on 14th December 1962. In the High Court appeared in Criminal appeals, Criminal revisions and Reference cases, in Habeas Corpus matter and other with matter mostly relating to industrial labour. His Lordship was appointed as Additional Judge, Calcutta High Court with effect from 17th June 1977 and later made Permanent Judge from 8th December 1977. His Lordship was elevated as Chief Justice Allahabad High Court on 12th November 1991. His Lordship was transferred as Chief Justice Bombay High Court from 9th January 1993. His Lordship was elevated as Judge, Supreme Court of India with effect from 14th December, 1993 and retired on 1st December, 1998.
