MR. Alexander Kinlouch Forbes




I.C.S. 1862-1866

Was a member of the Indian Civil Service, and was among the first six Judges of the Bombay High Court at the time of its inauguration in 1862. He was "beloved of the Judges of his time", being exceedingly popular with Indians for his Oriental learning, his knowledge of Indians languages and of the customs, usages and folklore of Western India; and also for "his saintly character". His memory is perpetuated in the "Kinloch Forbes Gold Medal" awarded for proficiency in law at LL.B. Examination of the Bombay University.
