MR. N.G. ChandavarkarKnight, B.A., LL.B., Pleader. 1901-1913 Mr. Justice Narayan Ganesh Chandavarkar, B.A., LL.B., Pleader. : Was a practicing lawyer as well as a politician and public man, before he was raised to the Bench like Justice Badruddin Tyabji. He was also a past President of Indian National Congress like him. He was appointed Judge on the death of Ranade in 1901, and held office till 1913. He took a prominent part in the affairs of the Bombay University and was later appointed as Vice-Chancellor. He sat on the Original Side of the High Court. After his retirement in 1913, he served as Prime Minister of Indore for some time; on the constitution of the expanded Legislative Councils under the Montague-Chemlsford Reforms, he was appointed its first speaker. He died in 1923 after an active and varied public career. |
