Justice Shri. Dilip Bhosale hails from Satara District, Maharashtra. He did his schooling and college education in Mumbai. He joined the Bar in June 1980 and since then he was practicing in the High Court at Bombay till his elevation as Judge of this Court. During the last 20 years he has appeared in many important cases.

During all these years he enjoyed different positions at the Bar. He was first elected to the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa in 1985. He was the youngest member of a State Bar Council in the country. He go elected to the Stat bar Council for three consecutive terms. For the third term he was elected with the record votes. He was elected as its Vice-Chairman in 1987-88 and as Chairman in 1993-94. In April 1998 he was elected as member to the Bar Council of India representing the State of Maharashtra and goa and became its elected Vice-Chairman in April 2000 for a period of two years. Mr. Bhosale was a President of one of the most prestigious and old Bar Association of the High Court, Advocates Association of Western India for a period of two years 1997-98 and 1998-99. He was nominated as a memeber of Legal Education Committee, constituted under the Advocates Act in 1998. He was also memeber of the General Council, National Law School,, Bangalore since 1998 till his elevation. He has been a Trustee on one of the oldest Law libraries in the High Courts namely Kirtikar Law Library since 1992.

As a member of the Bar Council of India and State Bar Council, he worked very hard and did his best for the betterment of the legal fraternity. His role will be remembered in restoring the right to vote to all Lawyers in Bar Council election, abolition of pre-enrolment training to the Law graduates, abolition of controversial postal ballot system, in expediting the appointments of JMFC, C.J.J.D. and solving the problems of Bar Associations in general. During his tenure as the Chairman of the State Bar Council, the Council started holding inter-collegiate moot court and elocution competitions of the final year law students and issuance of Identity Cards to the Lawyers. The State Bar Council under his Chairmanship had organized State Lawyers Conference at Bombay in 1993, which was inaugurated by the then Chief Justice of India, Mr. Justice Ventakachaliah.

He had the honour to be a member of the delegation representing lawyers in India, in the Commonwealth Lawyers Conference held between 14th-17th September, 1999, at Kaula Lampur, Malaysia. He was entrusted with the responsibility of attending the Bar Leaders Conference organised by the International Bar Association held on 15th and 16th September 2000, representing Lawyers of India. He also led the delegation of the Indian Lawyers to the International Lawyers Conference of I.B.A. between 17th to 22nd September 2000 followed by Bar Leaders Conference at Amsterdam, Holland.

He was Assistant Government Pleader and Assistant Public Prosecutor in the High Court during 1986-1991. He was appointed as Senior Counsel in the High Court at Bombay by Government of India in 1998. He was also appointed as a Special Counsel in the High Court by the Government of Maharashtra in 2000. He was engaged by the Government of Maharashtra as a Special Counsel in several matters. He also represented Maharashtra State Farming Corporation. Maharashtra State Marketing Federation, Maharashtra State Cotton Growers Marketing Federation, all Government Corporations in their cases in the High Court, Bombay. He was a standing Counsel for a number of educational institutions, sugar factories, District Central Cooperative Bank, Municipal Corporations and Councils and various Cooperative Societies and Trusts.

He was one of the most popular members of the Bar, who enjoyed different positions at different level in the profession and outside profession. He took a lead in presenting the proposal to the State Government to set up Law School in the State of Maharashtra on the pattern of Bangalore National Law School. His parents and maternal grandparents were freedom fighters. He is son of Babasaheb Bhosale, Bar-at-Law, former Chief Minister, Maharashtra and nephew of Prof. Shivarjirao Bhosale, former Vice-Chancellor of Marathwada University, Maharashtra.
