MR. M.G. Ranade

Mr. Justice Mahadeo Govind Ranade, M.A., LL.B., C.I.E., : Mr. Justice M. G. Ranade was a very able and erudite Judge. Was a great scholar and made outstanding contributions to Indian history, particularly the history of Maharashtra and also to Marathi literature. He completed his LL.B. in 1866 and enrolled as an advocate of the High Court in 1870. But he never practiced and joined government service. He acquired extensive judicial experience as Presidency Magistrate, Judge of Small Causes Court and Sub-Judge, before he raised to the Bench of the High Court in 1892 after the death of Justice K.T.Telang. He had a very profound knowledge of Hindu Law and his judgments have made important contributions to this branch of law. Throughout his judicial career he sat on the Appellate Side. He was strictly judicial and unbiased in his approach.
