Justice Yeshwant Vishnu Chandrachud, B.A., LL.B. : Born 12th July, 1920. Educated at Nutan Marathi Vidyalaya, S.P. College and Ferguson College, Poona. Elphinstone College. Bombay Law College, Poona. Enrolled Advocate High Court of Bombay November,1943 and did Civil and Criminal work. Worked Part-time Professor of Law, Government Law College. Bombay from 1st September 1949 to 1st September 1952. Appointed Additional Assistant Government Pleader in December 1952. Assistant Government Pleader in May 1956 and Government Pleader in June, 1958. Appointed Additional Judge of the High Court at Bombay from 19th March, 1961 and Permanent Judge of that High Court from 21st December,1961. Appointed Judge, Supreme Court on 28-08-1972. Appointed Chief Justice of India on 22-2-1978. Retired on 12-7-1985.
