Sir Lyttelton Holyoake Bayley,
Bar-at-Law. : Sir Lyttelton Holyoake
Bayley had a long association with the High Court of Bombay before
he retired in 1895. He was a barrister with a very large practice,
and became Advocate General before he was elevated to the Bench. Bayley
proved a strong, capable and experienced Judge; but was not very popular.
He was apparently not in good books of Government either; for on the
retirement of Sir Charles Sargent in 1895 he was passed over, Sir
Charles Farran though his junior superseding him as Chief Justice.
On this, he immediately resigned.
