Justice Madhukar Hiralal Kania, B.A.,(Hons.), LL.B. : Born
on 18-11-1927. Educated at Fellowship, School. St. Xavier's High School,
Elphinstone College and the Government Law College, Bombay. Enrolled
Advocate on 1st November, 1949 at Bombay High Court. Practiced mainly in
Civil Suits and Commercial matters in the High Court and the Bombay City Civil
Court, Bombay. Also appeared for the State of Maharashtra in Civil
Suits in the Bombay City Civil Court. Assistant Government Pleader for
the State of Maharashtra in the Bombay City Civil Court from 5th December,
1964 to 15th January, 1967. Government Pleader for the State of Maharashtra
in the Bombay City Civil Court from 16th January, 1967 to 3rd November, 1969.
Appointed Additional Judge of the High Court at Bombay with effect
from 14th November, 1969. Appointed permanent Judge from 2nd November,
1971 (A.N.). Appointed Judge of the Supreme Court on 1-5-1987. Appointed
Chief Justice of India w.e.f. 13-12-1991. Retired on 18-11-1992.
