Sir John Jardine,
I.C.S. : Sir John Jardine was a very able and independent
I.C.S. Judge. He was a great student of English history, constitution
and jurisprudence, as well as English, classical and oriental litratures.
Jardine's independence and courageous advocacy of freedom of speech
and liberty of the press cost him dear. When Mr. Birdwood retired
as Member of Council, Jardine was passed over, and Ollivant from
the Exective side of the I.C.S. was appointed to fill the vacancy.
Jardine immediately resigned and sailed for England.
