Justice Sam Piroj Bharucha, B.Sc., LL.B. :  Was born on May 6, 1937.  He was enrolled as an Advocate in the Bombay High Court on July 28, 1960 and practised mainly on the Original Side of the Bombay High Court.  He also appeared in the Supreme Court. He was appointed Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on September 19, 1977 and as a permanent Judge on April 3, 1978.  He was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court on November 1, 1991.  He was appointed Judge of the Supreme Court of India on July 1, 1992.  He assumed the office of the Chief Justice of India with effect from November 1, 2001.  Retired on May 6, 2002.
